Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take tattoo walk-ins?
Yes! It is highly recommended to call ahead at 865.830.3322 to ensure we have availability.
What is your shop minimum?
Our shop minimum is $150. Idle Hands is a 5-star rated custom tattoo studio with an array of talented tattoo artists. We take the time to discuss your ideas with you, and provide a custom tattoo unique for you. We send you home with aftercare and detailed instructions to ensure the longevity of your tattoo.
Do you do free consultations?
Consultations are always FREE. This is the most important part of the process to understand your design ideas and ensure our artists styles are the best fit for your needs. On occasion, we may refer you to neighboring tattoo studios, should our artists style and specialty not be the best fit for your design.
How do I book a tattoo session?
The best way to reach out is to submit a contact form and/or book your FREE CONSULTATION with our artist. The tattoo artists will go over the details of the design, and discuss next steps or proceeding with a tattoo session date. We do require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your session date, which is applied to the balance of your tattoo.
Once you have been in touch with your artist, we will provide a link for you to make the deposit and select your session date.
Do you tattoo minors?
No — in accordance with Tennessee law and Health Department regulations, we do not tattoo anyone under the age of 18.
Tennessee law makes it illegal to tattoo minors, even with parental consent. The only exception is for individuals ages 16–17, and only to cover an existing tattoo, with a parent or legal guardian present and providing written consent. Because this exception is very limited and highly regulated, our studio policy is to only tattoo clients 18 and older with valid government-issued ID. This ensures full compliance with state law and maintains the highest safety and ethical standards for our clients..
Can I bring my friend to my tattoo appointment?
Of course! Our shop is small, so please limit your guests to 1 person.
Is there a late policy?
Deposits are non-refundable and will be applied towards the balance of your tattoo sessions. If you need to reschedule your appointment, a 72-hour notice is required or your deposit may be forfeited. Our late shop policy- If you are more than 15 minutes late for your tattoo session, the artist has the right to reschedule that appointment and your deposit will be forfeited and another deposit for the reschedule will be required.
When can I see my tattoo design?
Your design will be shown on the day of your tattoo session, where we will go over the details, and make any necessary changes. For larger pieces, like full and half sleeve tattoos, your artist may make arrangements a few days prior to your appointment to lay out the design and ensure all details are finalized.
Do you do piercings?
Yes! Josh is our resident piercer, and all details can be found here, including booking your piercing appt.
What should I do to prepare for my tattoo appointment?
Eat something beforehand, drink water, get a good night’s sleep, bring water and snacks to your appointment, don’t drink alcohol the night before, wear comfortable clothing, and consult with your tattoo artist if you have any concerns.
Can I bring my pet to my tattoo appointment?
In accordance with ADA guidelines, trained service animals are permitted. For health and safety reasons, service animals must remain under control and away from sterile equipment and procedure areas. Pets and emotional support animals are not permitted.
Can you add ashes to the tattoo ink for my tattoo?
No, we cannot. The state of Tennessee prohibits tampering with commercial tattoo ink.
Can I make changes to my tattoo at the time of the session?
Nominal adjustments can be made the day of your appointment. However, if you decide you want a completely different design or significant additions at the time of your session, additional design fees may apply.
Why Additional Design Fees May Apply
Creating your tattoo design takes planning and time before your appointment. If big changes are made the day of your session, your artist may need to redraw or completely redesign the piece on the spot. This extra time can affect the rest of their schedule and other clients. Additional design fees help cover that extra work and keep the day running smoothly for everyone.
Do you provide free touch up?
Touch-up’s are at the discretion of the individual artist, however most of our artists provide one free touch up within 6 months of the tattoo. This does exclude hands, fingers and necks. You are welcome to schedule additional touch up/s or to bring an older tattoo back to life at the artists regular rates.
Will you touch up another artists work?
We love bringing an older piece back to life. We would recommend getting your touch up from the original artist if possible, but often times situations occur where the original artist is not available (moved away, no longer tattooing etc.) We are happy to help provide touch ups or re-works to ensure you are happy with your design. Submit a contact form with a photo reference of the current tattoo and description of what you are looking to get done.
